in Food Policy

Democracy Now, an award-winning independent news program, took a closer look at US health care and obesity earlier this week. The discussion explored the influence of “big food” on government and health and has relevance for Canadian and global audiences, too.

The primary guest was David Kessler, former FDA Commissioner under Bush I and Clinton. He is a pediatrician and served as the dean of the medical schools at both Yale and the University of California, San Francisco.

Later in the show, they discuss bacon, specifically — the vegetarian’s kryptonite. Arun Gupta looks at how public policy, big agriculture, fast food, and marketing led to the rise of #bacon.
