Ron Berezan, also known as the “Urban Farmer” will be visiting Calgary and giving a talk on Permaculture in the City at the Unitarian Church of Calgary this coming Wednesday.
We had a chance to see a presentation given by Ron at the 2009 Permaculture Convergence in Olds a few months ago. Ron is an impressive, engaging speaker, and even more impressive is the sophisticated, food producing ecosystem he’s created right in his yard in Edmonton.
From the poster:
Permaculture offers us wisdom for regenerating ecosystem health while meeting essential human needs, from yardscale food production to revitalization of neighborhoods. Inspiration will be drawn from urban permaculture examples around the world while suggesting many possibilities for permaculture in our own urban environment. Ron Berezan:
- “Bio‐Intensive” organic gardener
- Master Gardener
- Certified Permaculture Design Consultant
- member of the Society of Organic Urban Land Care Professionals (SOUL)
- organic gardening, edible landscaping & permaculture design & workshops
- incorporates food production, habitat creation, biodiversity and resource conservation into urban landscapes
Wednesday June 24, 7:00pm-9:00pm Unitarian Church of Calgary 1703 1st Street NW

I second Ryan’s comments on Ron. I saw the Urban Farmer at the Olds Convergence and highly recommend people interested in permaculture, urban agriculture, food-not-lawns, or organizing for food production consider heading down Wednesday.
Engaging and informative speaker with some incredible stories.
Ron Berezan is great! My husband and I have had the chance to take three of his mini-courses on permaculture, xeriscaping and edible landscapes at an Edmonton-area nursery. I have never learned so much in such a short period of time! He is a real treasure.
