@ Chrystal Much agreed re: STV! I'm moving to BC in May and I'm hoping to be joining an electoral system that's better than the one I'm leaving. I haven't been following the debate too much -- though I'm excited to get more involved with BC provincial politics soon -- and I hadn't realized that the NDP weren't supportive. That position is very short-sighted and self-interested; I'm disappointed to hear that.

I'm curious about what Corky's position might be on this -- with his talk of regional autonomy and decentralization, I wonder if he might object to stronger proportionality -- as it can sometimes move against regional representation and toward list systems or party selection.

Do you know where he stands?

That's fair enough. However, the point of the post is to give Corky's perspective on regional autonomy and political/economic decntralization--which is very much unique in any and all political parties (with sitting representation). The post and speech really isn't about the BC NDP, nor is the post representing it.

What's missing for me is mention of electoral reform and support for BC-STV. The NDP leadership is against the reform, although individual members tend to be in favour of it.

Which rather likens the situation to that of the federal Liberal party, with the leadership having one agenda, the grassroots (what's left of them) having another.

All the more reason that voters in BC must take the lead and choose BC-STV, a made-for-BC proportional representation system which is vastly superior to the current majoritarian first-past-the-post.
