I caught the sign while driving by a couple years ago and I’ve attended each Seedy Saturday at Montgomery community centre since.

Seed Saturday is something akin to a seed sale. There’s a wide variety of seeds, plants, compost and even worms that can be purchased from small savers and producers, while the lectures and workshops have been first class. I planted a mighty heirloom Costata Romanesco zucchini a couple summers ago (a traditional Italian variety) yielding some long, fat fruits.

I find it quite bizarre that Calgary, a city that boasts such a tiny local food movement would generate such interest in a seed sale every year. Then again, maybe that’s the reason there is so much interest!

Click here for the list of speakers, worshops, savers and gardeners who will be strutting their stuff at Seedy Saturday. See you there on Saturday March 21st from 10-3!
